Happy New Year and welcome to the second issue of THE LATEST @ LINDER.  Over the past several months, L&A has had the pleasure of working with several organizations focused on the environment, the climate and energy resources as featured below.  With their example and the new year comes our renewed commitment to the environment so please only print this newsletter out if necessary.
Council on Competitiveness
The National Energy Summit &
International Dialogue

CoCIn September 2009, the Council on Competitiveness brought together a broad coalition of CEOs, presidents of major research universities, labor union leaders, and top government officials both from the U.S. and abroad at The National Energy Summit & International Dialogue.  Linder & Associates, Inc. partnered with the Council on the planning and logistics of the two-day multi-session Summit and corresponding events including dinner at the State Department with Vice President Biden.  Employing cutting edge technology to support the Summit's dynamic dialogues and coverage by national media, L&A effectively enabled the Council to roll out a series of public-private sector action items to enhance global energy security and sustainability. U.S. Department of Energy
2009 Solar Decathlon
SDIn October 2009, the U.S. Department of Energy hosted the Solar Decathlon - a competition in which 20 teams of college and university students competed to design, build, and operate the most attractive, effective, and energy-efficient solar-powered house. The Solar Decathlon enabled the public to observe the powerful combination of solar energy, energy efficiency, and the best in home design on the National Mall.  For the first time since its inception in 2001, management components of the Solar Decathlon were outsourced and Linder & Associates, Inc. was awarded the special events and volunteer coordination contracts.  In addition to over 20 special events, L&A's role also included securing, training and facilitating over 1,300 volunteer positions in an effort to improve the public experience for the over 200,000 people in attendance.  For more information on the Solar Decathlon, please visit www.solardecathlon.org.
Antarctic Treaty Summit:
Science-Policy Interactions in International Governance
ATSLinder & Associates, Inc. was chosen to plan and manage the events surrounding the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Antarctic Treaty in Washington, D.C. this past December. To celebrate this historic landmark and the global vision of the twelve original signatories,
ambassadors, historians, scientists, political leaders, and students assembled at the Smithsonian Institution over the course of four days to highlight lessons learned, share research findings, debate the success of the current international governance structure, and look ahead to the next 50 years of science and governance.  "With the interests of science and the progress of all mankind," the Antarctic Treaty has provided a unique and firm foundation for ongoing international cooperation to successfully manage nearly ten percent of the Earth for "peaceful purposes only." The Antarctic Treaty now encompasses 47 participating nations, representing nearly 90% of humankind.  For more information on the Antarctic Treaty Summit, please visit www.atsummit50.aq.
